KENNEWICK, Wash. -- After a week of road closures and accidents, the Washington State Department of Transportation wants drivers to be ready for part two of the Blue Bridge joint extension project which starts Friday evening.
The project manager, Mo Davarai says this time around, they are expecting to spend more time on the project, an extra day and will do the work with a bigger team, with a crew of about 20 people.
US 395 Southbound will close at 9:00 PM from Kennewick to Pasco. Drivers are advised to take detours, from Highway 240 to the cable bridge and to allow more time to get to their destinations.
Davari says the crews will be working in shifts, but repair work on the joint replacements will be done around the clock until Wednesday at 5:30AM.
He says, this time, the crews are aware of the problems and are prepared and that's why they decided to not begin on Thursday. "Moving the closure, to Friday night gave the contractor little bit better prep work and they are ready to go starting tonight. they know what they're going to be facing," Davari said.
He also added that the cold weather and possibility of snow could slow down the workforce, but he said they did account for that in the extra day.
