Representative Haler hosts citizen forums

WEST RICHLAND, Wash.-- The election may be over but politics never stop. State House Representative Larry Haler hosted a citizen forum Saturday in West Richland.

The 8th District Representative Larry Haler just won the race on Tuesday to keep his seat in the House, but he's already thrown his name in to take Jerome Delvin's newly opened up 8th District Senate seat.

In the mean time..he's focused on his work of taking his constituents needs to Olympia. Saturday Representative Haler held the first of three citizen forums to discuss the 2013 legislative session.

He says the key things he plans on working towards in Olympia are getting money to expand Delta High School, balancing the budget and getting in the state constitution the need for a two thirds majority to raise taxes.

But Haler says he wants to hear what people want for the district at these forums because they know what's best for them.

"The best ideas come from the citizens and the bills that I see that pass the legislature the most are the ideas that come from the citizens that the legislatives have taken back to the legislature," Haler said.

As for if Haler will take Delvin's seat and when is still uncertain.

The local Republican Party will do the initial appointment and then it would go to the County Commissioner. Representative Haler said if Delvin steps down from his Senate seat in December then Haler could start off the 2013 legislative session as a senator if appointed.
