Yakima remembers Korean and Vietnam Veterans

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WASH.--Veterans and their families gathered around the Korean and Vietnam Memorial Monday in Yakima to pay their respects.

The monument has been a fixture in Sarg Hubbard Park for 20 years.

Jesse Villanueva, the chairman of the Yakima Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, said they raised funds for more than four years before they could break ground.

Veterans said it's a place for people to honor and pay tribute to those who have served our country.

"They knew, and they went that they may have to lay their life on the line and they did," said Vietnam Veteran Victor Wood. "We should never forget that, and we should honor and respect that."

Another veterans memorial tribute will be held Tuesday at the VFW Post 379 on 5th Avenue starting at 1 p.m. This tribute is for all veterans who never received full military honors.
