UMATILLA, Ore. - The Port of Umatilla is ending it's lease on the Umatilla Marina and RV Park, but several groups are trying to find a way to keep the facilities open.
The Army Corps of Engineers owns the land, but at a meeting today said they do not have the resources.
A citizens group has collected hundreds of petition signatures to show the Corps how important the marina and park are to the area.
"A lot of folks that utilize that facility from many many miles away come to fish here, and participate in water sports and recreation and things like that, so it's very very important to us," said Roak TenEyck, a spokesman for the group Friends of the Umatilla Marina and RV Park.
One possible option would involve the city of Umatilla forming a parks and recreation department to take over management of the marina and RV park.
