KENNEWICK, Wash. - For some in the region, your mobile experience will get a lot faster come Thursday.
Verizon Wireless announced they are launching 4G coverage in Ellensburg, Moses Lake and Wenatchee. U.S. Cellular will also launch their 4G LTE service for Yakima and the Tri-Cities Thursday.
Walla Walla got Verizon 4G last month, Pullman nearly a year ago. So why is taking so long for the Tri-Cities which has a much larger population than those cities?
"It's a pretty lengthy process. There's an awful lot of parts and pieces involved in where we go next and how we're able to bring it to certain communities and not others at any one point in time," said Scott Charlston of Verizon Wireless.
Charlston said underground fiber is needed to connect all the 4G LTE cities together and that's held up the rollout in the Tri-Cities and Yakima.
A testing phase is set to begin next week, though, where some parts of the Tri-Cities will experience the faster Verizon network. The full 4G launch for Yakima and the Tri-Cities is scheduled for next month.
