No Answers Yet on a Possible Aquatics Center in the Tri-Cities

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. -- There are still no answers as to when, or if, the Tri-Cities will get a new aquatic center.

Tonight's Regional Public Facilities District meeting ended with even more questions about the project. The Pasco PFD presented their updated plan for a regional aquatic center, after losing the TRAC as a possible location.

A new site has been found.  Its located between Road 68 and Road 100 in Pasco, and its at least 10 acres in size.

But members of the regional board aren't totally convinced.

"I don't know if based on tonight's information if tonight is the night we can sit here and make any decision. I think we all have to look at this thing carefully. I'm not ready to say the aquatic center is not the project," Kennewick Mayor Steve Young said.

Board members felt much better about the TRAC location because it included the promise of $200,000 in annual funding. Without that money to cover operating costs, the board isn't sure the aquatic center will be feasible.

In the next few weeks, the board will hammer out the funding details, along with operating and capital costs.
