Break-in at Seattle Democratic Party HQ suspicious

Posted: Updated:

SEATTLE (AP) - Police are still investigating a burglary discovered Election Day at the state Democratic Party headquarters in Seattle, but a preliminary report suggests it might be something other than a routine break-in.

The report says the majority of items taken belonged to important campaign people, and the intruder attempted to make it appear to be a random burglary.

Police spokesman Jeff Kappel cautions against reading too much into the preliminary report. He won't say more while detectives are investigating. There have been no arrests.

Workers arriving about 5:30 a.m. Nov. 6 found the front door smashed and the door ajar. Offices in the building were ransacked.

The police description of the incident with names blacked out was obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request.
