New business lets folks ice skate without the ice

YAKIMA, Wash.-- A new small business has popped up in Yakima giving folks the chance to ice skate outside, even when there's no ice.

The new Chalet Place Ice Rink has a fully synthetic surface, made from high density plastic that lets skaters glide almost as well as the real thing.

It opened this week in the Chalet Place Shopping Center on 56th Avenue and Summitview.

Co-owner Ian Cain says they've seen a great response from the community so far.

"We just thought that this was going to be a great idea for the community. For getting some kids out on this end of town to try skating that may have never had a chance to put skates on before in their lives," said Cain.

The rink is open daily from 10am to 7pm, and it's only $5 to skate, including rentals.

Cain says people of all ages are welcome to come out and give it a try.
