SeaPort Airlines cancels flight service from Yakima Air Terminal

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Just eight months after starting service at the Yakima Air Terminal, SeaPort Airlines is canceling all of its flights to and from Yakima.

Airport Board Chairman Les Flue says last he heard, SeaPort's numbers were actually doing pretty good in Yakima, and the cancellation is a pretty big shock to him.

According to the airline, they just haven't filled the planes often enough to continue their flights between Yakima, Wenatchee, and Portland.

Airport officials were excited when SeaPort signed on to be the second airline at the terminal last year.

Flue says they've been working to build the airport, so more people come to Yakima, and this cancellation won't help their plans.

"We're really trying hard to create the Yakima Air Terminal into a valuable resource for the community and to have them pull out, with the notice that we had, was a very big disappointment," said Flue.

He says although it is upsetting to lose SeaPort, the city, county, and airport board are working together to bring in a consultant to help develop a strategic plan to bring more services to Yakima.

According to SeaPort Airlines, four employees will be losing their jobs as of December 15th.

Yakima, WASH.--SeaPort Airlines is canceling their flight service from Yakima Air Terminal and Pangborn Field in Wenatchee. The cancellation comes less than a year after it started.

The last flights will be on December 15th.

The airline had trouble booking passengers from Yakima, and the President of SeaPort Airlines said the markets did not meet their expectations.

The airline offered round trip flights between Yakima, Wenatchee and Portland.
