Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign starts in Yakima

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- As we get closer to the end of November, Salvation Army branches all over the country are starting their Red Kettle Campaigns.

In Yakima, the local Salvation Army kicked off their drive with a bell-ringing miniature horse Tuesday. They'll ask for donations until Christmas Eve to help those in need.

Last year, they collected more than $100,000 during the holiday season and they hope to get even more this year.

"We gotta top it. There's a lot more need this year than there has been in the past few. If you look at... The number of people that are out there, that don't have jobs, don't have a steady source of income," said Jack Smith with the Salvation Army.

The Yakima office says they actually raised less money last year than the year before.

The Tri-Cities Red Kettle Campaign will start on the 23rd.
