RICHLAND, Wash. - The United States Department of Energy has presented a woman in the Tri-Cities with the Secretary's Exceptional Service Award.

The US DOE awarded Shirley Olinger, who managed Washington State DOE's Office of River Protection in Richland for almost three years, for her 32 years of service to the federal government.  The DOE tells us she worked for 25 years as a senior nuclear manager and leader responsible for some of the DOE's most complex projects and programs.

Olinger was one of the first women nuclear engineers promoted to a senior management level during her time at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.
