KENNEWICK, Wash. - Horse Heaven Round-Up organizers say the rodeo was recently named Large Rodeo of the Year for the Columbia River Circuit.
This is the second time the Kennewick rodeo has won the award, which was presented at the Columbia River Circuit Finals in Redmond, Ore.
Competition for the honor, which is voted on by the cowboys, included renowned rodeos from Ellensburg to Pendleton vying for the award.
The cowboys cited the quality of the stock at the rodeo, the hospitality provided for contestants and the prize money as reasons for choosing the Kennewick event for the honor, according to Columbia River Circuit officials.
The "Large Rodeo" category is for rodeos that provide more than $5,000 per event in prize money. The purse at the 2012 Horse Heaven Round-Up was $8,000 per event.
