Yakima, WASH.--Many local business owners in Yakima said the crowds came out Saturday.
Cookie Cutter Etc. on Summitview Avenue said they had a steady flow of business and believe part of that has to do with heavy advertising. Another local store that sent out a lot of advertisements was Dunbar Jewelers. They posted signs and even made a welcome mat promoting the day.
Local business owners said it's important to support small businesses.
"Local businesses provide a lot of opportunities for employment," said Pat Gilmore, the owner of Dunbar Jewelers. "There's a lot of small businesses. People don't realize how many there are in a city the size of Yakima."
Business owners also mentioned that when you buy local the money stays local. "Small Business Saturday" will hopefully give a boost to the economy.
