KENNEWICK, Wash. - Northwest Cancer Clinic is making the holiday season a little brighter for two families in our region.

In October, the clinic asked for stories about people in our community fighting breast cancer.

After dozens of submissions, a panel of judges awarded first prize and $500 to Janice Lloyd of Benton City. She wrote about the positive attitude her sister Barbara continues to show as she goes through treatment. Since she was the topic of Janice's story, the clinic also gave $500 to Barbara.

"It's a great privileged, and a blessing," said Janice, "Just a little bit of sunshine to make it a little easier for her."

Judges also decided to create a second prize after reading a story by Danica Lerch, a young girl who wrote about her mother's experience with breast cancer.   The judges awarded her $100 dollars for her effort. Danica says she plans to donate some of it back to the clinic.
