(KVOA) - Undocumented students are glad to see immigration advocates suing the state of Arizona for denying them driver's licenses.
Jessica Garcia is a sophomore at Pima Community College. She moved to the United States when she was 12-years-old.
A non-profit group called Scholarships A-Z is helping her apply for her deferred action status.
"If we receive the licenses we are just going to contribute more to the state," she said. "We're just going to drive legally, not breaking any laws."
She usually takes a bus or relies on friends and family for transportation.
Several groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, announced the lawsuit in Phoenix Thursday.
"The state of Arizona is playing politics with the hopes and dreams of the ambitious leaders of tomorrow," Arizona ACLU director, Alessandra Soler said.
Groups like the Arizona Latino Republican Association do not want undocumented immigrants to receive licenses.
