Kennewick church celebrates 7th year into "Celebrate Recovery" program
PASCO, Wash. -- The "Celebrate Recovery" program at South Hills Church in Kennewick is celebrating the program's success into its 7th year.
The faith based program to help people deal with addiction, grief and sexual abuse has grown almost 50% just in the last year.
Pastor Gerald Ward, in charge of Celebrate Recovery said they started with five people, and last Thursday had a whopping 190 people attend their session.
Ward said the holidays are often a tough time for people.
"Obviously weather influences that. The stress of inadequate funds influences that. The stress of being separated from family influences that. And then the stress of their addictive behaviors, if that happens to be the reason they're coming to Celebrate Recovery," he said.
Ward said people drive up from as far as Pendleton to attend the Thursday evening program that runs from 6-8pm. He says part of the success is from word of mouth, and also from their signs along Highway 395.
Ward said Celebrate Recovery is also very family friendly with their "Celebration Station", a program for kids whose parents are attending to get help. It teaches kids age 0-13 how to cope with the stresses their parents are dealing with. Ward said about 20-30 children attend that program.
Celebrate Recovery begins every Thursday at 6:00pm with dinner. It is located at 3700 W. 27th Avenue in Kennewick. For more information call 509-586-6101.
