YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Fire Department said a marijuana grow operation is to blame for a basement fire Saturday.
Fire officials said there were about 30 plants growing in a ten foot by ten foot room.
"I anticipate seeing more building fire from marijuana growing operations because of the recent change in state law," said Battalion Chief Mitch Cole.
Crews were called out just after 7 p.m. to the burning building on the 1600 block of Browne Avenue. Two of the units were damaged by fire while the entire five unit building suffered smoke damage.
