Prosser City Clerk Accused of Stealing From Her Grandmother

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Prosser City Clerk is facing theft charges out of Yakima County.

Yakima County Prosecutors say Rachel Shaw took cash from her Grandmother, while overseeing her account.

The city says the charges are completely outside Shaw's duties for the City of Prosser, and people should note that city clerks do not have authorization or access to any city financial resources. Because of that, the Mayor of Prosser, Paul Warden, intends to keep Mrs. Shaw as a City Clerk.

Mayor Warden said, "My intention is to let the legal process take its course and reevaluate if new or different information should become available. Rachel is highly regarded by myself, her coworkers and all the outside agencies the city has dealings with. She does a superb job discharging her duties as City Clerk for our city. If she is found to be culpable of the allegations by our legal system she will be held personally accountable by the authorities of Yakima County."
