KENNEWICK, Wash.-- NBC Right Now continues to follow the possible expansion of the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick.

The Kennewick City Council is meeting Monday night with the City's Public Facilities District to discuss what that might look like.

Plans are in motion to expand the Three Rivers Campus and bring in more money to the area.

At Monday night's meeting the Kennewick PFD is going to present plans for expanding the convention center and adding entertainment buildings.

Plans are already underway to build a hotel attached to the convention center. Construction is expected to begin in February. Monday night's meeting will also focus on efforts to double the size of the convention center to accommodate larger groups.

Kennewick Mayor Steve Young said the expansion would make a big impact on the community.. And he hopes to start construction on that project within a year.

"If we don't expand the Convention Center, we stand to lose some major conventions in this area. Those convention generate 30, 40 million dollars in money spent in our community. So we not only want to retain that, but we want to be able to expand and get more in here," said Mayor Young.

Monday night's meeting will also include talks about more long term plans to add a performing arts center and a new coliseum for sports and concerts that will hold over ten thousand people.

Mayor Young said the area is pressed to meet the growing tourism market in the region and these additions could meet that demand.
