PORTLAND, Ore. -- Oregon officials say they have tentatively identified the gunman that opened fire inside a crowded suburban Portland mall.
Authorities say the shooter was an adult male, but they're not releasing his name at this time.
The gunman is reported to have taken his own life, but not before killing two others and wounding a third.
"These things aren't supposed to happen and we train for them, we pray and hope that they never do happen and unfortunately tonight we did have an active shooter situation where an individual came in there took the lives of two people and we have a young lady at the hospital fighting for her life right now," said Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts.
Clackamas County Sheriff's Office also says law enforcement didn't fire any shots at the scene. Witnesses say the gunman was carrying a rifle, wearing camouflage, a bulletproof vest and a mask.
Police say the mall will be closed while the shooting is under investigation.
