YAKIMA, Wash.-- A Yakima couple faces felony charges after police say they held their daughter captive for two days, locked in a bathroom.
YPD got a call Tuesday night from a 15-year-old girl saying her parents kept her locked in a bathroom for two days at their home on the 1700 block of Prasch Avenue, before she was able to escape.
The 15-year-old told police she had to break out a section of the bathroom floor and crawl under the house to get out.
The victim's mother, Meriah Ceja, and step-father, Antonio Ceja made their first appearance in court Wednesday.
Family members say they're shocked this happened to the 15-year-old.
"It was really heartbreaking because I never saw it coming, you know? I saw little issues with the mom but I never thought it would be this bad, you know? She really buried it in herself not to show those kind of feelings or that kind of home issue stuff," said Manuel Zamudio, a relative of the victim.
The family members say the 15-year-old is a very nice and loving girl. They can't imagine why her parents would be accused of locking her in a room.
The Ceja's are both facing unlawful imprisonment and assault charges. Their bail has been set at $50,000 a piece.
