Students Get Lesson on Hanford's Past, Present and Future

Posted: Updated:

BENTON CITY, Wash. - Hanford's past, present and future were the topics of a presentation at Kiona-Benton High School Friday.

When students were asked if anyone they know works for Hanford nearly every hand in the room went up. But surprisingly, many of them didn't know much about the Hanford site -- until Friday.

"This is an interesting way to get future generations involved. The public is very important to our cleanup decisions and our process. We need to really take a step in educating folks," said Cameron Salony of the Department of Energy.

The Hanford Speakers Bureau gives presentations all over the country. Their goal, especially when speaking to younger people, is to educate them on Hanford's history while giving them an update on the cleanup's progress and letting them know how they can get involved.
