CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN, Wash. - A young woman is lucky to be alive after an avalanche buried her on Crystal Mountain Tuesday, northwest of Yakima.
The Crystal Mountain Ski Patrol says the avalanche kicked loose Tuesday afternoon in the Northway portion of the area, hitting three skiers.
Two of them were able to dig their way out, but one woman was buried. That is when the ski patrol sprang into action.
"You know, she's not coming out without help. They dug down to investigate, the found a hand. She was fine, she was fine," said Ski Patrol Director Paul Baugher.
The ski patrol found her within ten minutes and pulled her out of the snow. They said she was conscious and still breathing.
Crystal Mountain is not the only place dealing with avalanche problems.
DOT crews had to close down Snoqualmie Pass for several hours for avalanche control.
