Yakima Police Arrest Murder Suspect

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima Police have arrested a man suspected of killing another man back in June.

Jose Silva appeared in court for the first time today.

He faces a charge of first-degree murder charge for the death of David Silva, who was gunned down in front of his own home. He also faces assault charges for injuring Silva's daughter. Both victims are not related to the suspect.

Police say Jose Silva was a person of interest early on. However, they wanted solid evidence before making an arrest so his trial wouldn't end up dragging on like Kevin Harper's did earlier this year.

"The judicial time clock begins to tick once they're in custody... And we have to stay within the parameters of that," said Yakima Police Captain Rod Light.

Police say the attack was gang related, and likely targeted David Silva's daughter, who police say is involved in gangs.
