Yakima, WASH.--A group of people in Yakima set out to remind holiday shoppers what Christmas is really about.
As people were pulling into the Valley Mall parking lot Saturday, they were greeted by smiling faces handing out free scarves.
Connections Church of Yakima had over 650 scarves to give out. Once people got over the initial shock of the price, they gladly took the gift.
"People kept asking for free, it's free? Do we have to pay for it? Do we have to pay for it? No, it's just a gift to bring a smile to people's faces," said Vanessa Becker, a member of Connections Church.
Members of the church said they bought hundreds of yards of fleece fabric and made all the scarves themselves. They hope these small presents will help ease some of the holiday stress.
