Ibanez Could Play Significant Role in Mariners' Offense

Updated:

At least it a trade that has Mariner fans talking. Seattle inked outfielder Raul Ibanez on Saturday, and it looks like the former Mariner could play a significant role in the lineup.

Ibanez said at-bats was the key reason he decided to return to Seattle. He said he could be the No. 3 or No. 4 hitter. On defense he will play a combination of left and right field, and some first base. He will also put in some work as designated hitter.

Ibanez, now 40-years-old, said the opportunity to play a significant role on the Yankees' lineup "just wasn't there."
