University of Phoenix Closing Local Branch

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The University of Phoenix's student resource center in Kennewick is now closed. The location was one of the one-hundred-fifteen nationwide the company shut down as a result of declining enrollments-and dropping revenues.

The University of Phoenix first entered the Mid-Columbia in 2008 by adding a corporate education liaison in the Tri-Cities.  A year later it opened an office with a handful of staff and had grown to about 1,300 local students.  In May of 2010, the university spent two-hundred-twenty-five-thousand dollars remodeling a 4-thousand square-foot leased office space on Gage Boulevard.

Students impacted by the closures can transfer to the university's online classes or move to another University of Phoenix site.
