RICHLAND, Wash. -- Tuesday's White Christmas meant a busy evening for road crews as they worked through the night to make sure the roads were ready for drivers this morning.
The street department in Kennewick started clearing these roads at two in the morning.Jack Weber, the Street Department crew leader said they had six people out plowing the hilly parts of the city and de-icing the main roads. They started using Magnesium Chloride two years and stopped using sand.
The City of Richland had a crew of four out at 3:00am. They did have some equipment problems but sprayed most of the roads with sodium chloride to keep them from freezing."We got a large tanker, and we run those down our main streets, and then two small one ton trucks with 300 gallon tanks," said Dave Pardini, the street maintenance supervisor for Richland.
Pardini says their crews sprayed the streets all day before the temperatures freeze tonight. Kennewick plans to start their de-icing treatment at 5:00am Thursday morning.
