YAKIMA, Wash.-- A Yakima County Judge sentenced a man convicted of murder to 59 years in prison.
A jury convicted 26-year-old Terrek Corbin of first-degree murder in the death of Mark Wallace. Police say Corbin shot and killed Wallace in a burglary in 2010.
Both the victim's mother and Corbin himself spoke before the judge made her ruling. The victim's mother, Eva Wallace, told Corbin she had prayed police would bring him to justice.
"You took from us someone so precious. You ripped a hole in our hearts," said Wallace.
Corbin still claims he's innocent.
"Basically, just a lot of people here think that I'm some type of person that I'm not," Corbin said.
Corbin potentially faced a life sentence under Washington's three strikes law. However, the prosecutor decided one of his prior crimes did not count as a strike.
