YAKIMA, Wash. - The City of Yakima hopes to keep big crowds coming to the downtown area by extending free parking hours.
You can now park for free up to four hours. Before, it was only two hours.
The city hopes that by making it easier and cheaper to park more people will be willing to spend time at local shops and restaurants. Many people seem to agree.
"I think it attracts people, as much as people don't want to pay. It being four hours compared to two hours, I think definitely more people will want to come downtown," said Whitney Bloom.
This change costs the city around $60,000 a year, but council members said the revenue generated from sales tax will make up for that loss.
