Solar Hot Water Heaters Helping Homes Stay Green

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - A new system is helping homeowners stay green during the winter months.

The Home Builders Association of Tri-Cities is teaming up with Silk Road solar to provide Solar Hot Water Systems. The system is mounted without pumps or controllers and can work year around without needing to be turned off or winterized.

"I'd love to save the planet, but I'm not going to go broke doing it. So, I think this is the kind of alternative that we're starting to see that makes sense to be a responsible person and to make it financially viable," said Troy Woody from Silk Road Solar.

It costs about $3,000 to install the system in a single family home. The company says it pays it self off in five years or less.
