Kennewick Police Notice Drop in Number of Traffic Accidents
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kennewick Police say the corner of Canal Drive and Columbia Center Boulevard is where they see the most collisions in the City of Kennewick. Officers say they also see many accidents on Columbia Center Boulevard alone.
So during 2012, the traffic unit paid extra attention to the busy street focusing on speeders, and drivers who text and use their cell phones.
They handed out a lot of tickets, and in turn, they have seen a 9% reduction in the number of accidents along Columbia Center Boulevard and a 9% reduction total for the City of Kennewick.
"Your car insurance rates are dictated by how safe the streets are in the community you live and work in. So this does affect everyone. When our accident rates go up, so do your insurance rates," said Kennewick Police Sgt. Ken Lattin.
There are six traffic unit officers that patrol the streets of Kennewick and they spend most of their time on Columbia Center Boulevard.
