Pendleton Airport Working to Prevent Weeds on Runways

Posted: Updated:

PENDLETON, Ore. - The Pendleton airport is working to prevent weeds from growing on the runways instead of killing them after they've grown.

The city says weeds are a problem at the Eastern Oregon Regional Airport, where there's a $2.4 million debt to other city funds and changes happening in the management.

The airport says the Federal Aviation Administration admonished the airport about weeds in 2011 and they were quickly removed, but the airport has to spray now to prevent them.

A spokesperson says the worker who did daily runway inspections retired last week, so they're trying to replace him while someone from another department possibly covers the spraying responsibilities.
