YAKIMA, Wash.-- Safeway employees in Yakima presented a $76,000 check today to the Memorial Foundation.
The money will support breast cancer services in the Yakima Valley.
Cashiers at stores from the Lower Yakima Valley to Cle Elum collected the money during their Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
They asked for donations from customers in their checkout lines.
"I find this check from the people who generated these dollars with the help of their customers to be true miracle money," said Anne Caffery from the Memorial Foundation.
"Today if $76,000 just goes and saves one life, it was more than worth it," said John Smith with Safeway.
The foundation says much of the money will go toward helping patients who don't have money pay for their own testing.
