Kootenai County Deputies Locate & Arrest Hiding Burglar

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE KOOTENAI COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: On Monday, January 28, 2013 at about 1:00 PM deputies responded to a residence in the area of Driftwood Dr and Greensferry Rd, south of Post Falls, ID along the Spokane River, for a possible burglary in progress.

It was reported that the homeowners of the residence were out of town and a neighbor was caretaking while they were away. When the neighbor went to check on the home, he noticed fresh shoeprints in the snow, leading from the roadway to the residence – but no shoeprints leaving the residence.

As the deputies arrived on scene, they began a search of the home. Several expensive items including televisions, entertainment systems and related electronics were found disconnected and appeared to be gathered for removal from the residence.

While searching the garage area of the home, they located an adult female, later identified as Laura K. Kees, 50 years old of Coeur d'Alene, hiding underneath a large blue Rubbermaid storage tub. Kees was taken into custody without incident.

Kees initially refused to give deputies information as to her involvement with the burglary, but later said she and a "friend" had gone to the residence because the "friend" had left some of his property in the house. Unfortunately, she was unable to explain why there were only one set of shoeprints leading to the house – and the tread matched the shoes she was wearing.

Kees was booked into the Kootenai County Jail for Burglary. There is currently no bond set.
Kees has been booked into the Kootenai County Jail 25 times since 1992 for a variety of charges including DUI, Contempt of Court, Possession of Drugs, Theft, Eluding, Battery and Possession of Stolen Property.
