Kiwanis Park Ball Fields Dedicated to Late Community Members

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.--Three new ball fields at Yakima's Kiwanis Park will be dedicated to three late community members.

The fields will be named after Barney Smith, Gene Shields and Deb Krautwurm. All three served as members of either the Lions, Kiwanis or Rotary clubs.

Those who knew them said they were kind people who contributed their time and energy to make Yakima a better place.

"Absolutely, all of them have made large impacts in our community," said Steve Pilger, the President of Yakima Rotary Trust. "We're all better for it."

Funding for the lighted ball fields project came from the city, the Yakima Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis clubs, and the Yakima School District.
