YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima City Council
has approved a bus fare increase in response to rising fuel costs.
Adult fares will go up 25 cents and will
now cost one dollar.
The price of a monthly bus pass will also
go up by 8 dollars, and reduced fare bus passes will go up by four dollars.
We talked with a number of bus riders
about the increases today.
Many of them say they're not happy to see
prices going up.
"It's kinda hard, I know they gotta
pay for their stuff too, but this is Yakima. You know, we got our stuff to pay
for too," said Transit Rider Elijah Pablo.
"Saving a lot of people in gas, but
now that everything is going to be up, I mean... I think it's not," said
Transit Rider Maria Marmolejo.
The Transit Division says it hasn't
raised fare prices since 2009.
The new fares will go into effect on March
eighth.
