Sunnyside City Manager Says He Didn't Fire Acting Police Chief

Posted: Updated:

SUNNYSIDE, Wash.-- Sunnyside City Manager Frank Sweet has released letters that he sent to Acting Police Chief Phil Schenck that say the longtime Sunnyside officer has not been fired.

In the letters, Sweet says Schenck misinterpreted what Sweet was saying.

The original letter, sent on January 30th, highlighted Sweet's concerns about Schenck's work performance and his active search for a new job outside the city.

But in a follow-up letter sent Wednesday, Sweet said it was all a misunderstanding. Something that was not only misinterpreted by the chief, but by several city council members who confirmed the termination to us.

This week, Acting Chief Schenck also made public his plans to seek the police chief job in Sunnyside.
