SEATTLE, Wash. - Washington is top in the nation for the number of tests it requires students to take before earning a high school diploma. It is something that many students, educators, and parents would like to change.
Starting with this year's sophomores, Washington will be the only state to require students to pass five different graduation tests. Nine states have four graduation exams and four states have three. 10 states have one or two.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn says he would like to see Washington save money and time by dropping the number down to three exams.
The House Education Committee will hear the proposed bill Friday.
