MEAD, Wash. -
Senior Night was made even sweeter Thursday night, as Mead held on to beat Gonzaga Prep for the girls title of the Greater Spokane League.
Three Panthers scored in double figures in Meads 51-47 win. Delany Junkermier led Mead with 15 points, Sue Winger scored 14 and Jade Redmon added 10.
Prep's Laura Stockton led all scorers with 17.
The most inspirational moment of the night happened when Mead senior Alea Johnson took to the court for a pair of possessions. Johnson's prep playing career was cut short by an illness when she was a freshman.
"I was really scared, I wanted to cry out there, I was too excited," said Johnson after the game. "You just have to keep trying because I didn't think I would ever get that chance again, and I did. So, it's possible for everyone."
