Action is meant to help protect people who left abusive marriages.
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) February 13, 2013
Divorce.us.org will allow people to contact them to have their current addresses purged from their database in cases where they feel the need to protect themselves from their former spouses, company officials said.
“When we get divorce records from the courthouses, they include both parties' current addresses,” said company spokesman Josh Fraser. “In general that's not a problem, but we have had people contact us to request that those addresses be purged. After listening to their concerns, we've realized that there is often good reason to do so.”
The company provides divorce records for a fee in order to allow people in new relationships the chance to make sure their current romantic partner isn't currently married.
“We are happy to provide that service,” Fraser said. “What we don't want to do, however, is become a service for potentially violent people to track down their former spouses. That can lead to dangerous situations that we don't want to have any part of. Providing information is great, but we also have an obligation to protect the general public.”
Effective immediately, people who don't want their addresses to come up in the search simply need to contact the company, explain their situation, and the customer service people will walk them through the process, Fraser said.
“Of course, in some cases the court has already sealed those records,” Fraser said. “So, if that is your situation you don't have to worry. We wouldn't have had access to your current address to begin with.”
Divorce.us.org is a top resource online for divorce records, marriage records, and other family background information. A simple search can turn up hundreds of records on just one name. Find out the divorce records needed today on this reliable database.
