Zags Baseball: Gonzalez Named to Golden Spikes Watch List

Gonzaga two-way threat Marco Gonzalez is primed for another big year on the diamond. The junior pitcher-first baseman was named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list.

The Golden Spikes award is given to the best amateur baseball player in the country. Past winners include Tim Lincecum, Robin Ventura and Bryce Harper.

Gonzalez is the reigning West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year.

The Zags open up their baseball season Friday with a doubleheader at the Palm Springs Tournament in California. They play Utah Valley at 10 a.m., followed by UC Riverside at 4 p.m.
