INDUSTRY HILLS, Calif. - Defending champion Gonzaga University sits atop the leaderboard after Sunday's opening round of the third annual Folino Invitational women's golf tournament.

The Bulldogs shot an opening-round 303 and hold a 4-shot lead over Boise State University heading into Monday's second round. The University of Wyoming sits 9-strokes back in third place.

Three Bulldogs are in a five-way logjam for second behind first-round leader Kristen Aiu of host Cal State Fullerton who shot a 2-over par 73 at the 6,067-yard, par 71 Babe Didrikson Course at Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms.

Aiu, playing as an individual, holds a 1-shot lead over Gonzaga's Raychelle Santos, Han Wu and Tai Jade 'TJ' Kliebphipat, also playing as an individual, who all shot 74.

Victoria Fallgren shot a 77 and is tied for 15th and Alice Kim fired a 78 and is tied for 20th to round out the Bulldog scorers. Angela DeVilla skied to an 84.

"Raychelle, Han and TJ had fairly solid rounds," Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. "TJ bounced back after a rough start, Han had three birdies in her last six holes and Raychelle played solid but couldn't get a putt to drop."

Despite being in the lead, Rickel said his team is not satisfied with Sunday's result.

"We are not satisfied with our round today," Rickel said "We need to manage the course better tomorrow. Some of us need to be much better with our emotions and have a better competitive spirit."

Monday's play will have scheduled tee times with Tuesday's final round a shotgun start.
