Outlook Replacing Hotmail as Microsoft's Email Program
SAN FRANCISCO - Microsoft executives say Outlook will now replace Hotmail as Microsoft's webmail service. Representatives say they are so confident "Outlook" is the best email service, they plan to spend more than $30 million dollars to advertise it.
On Tuesday, February 19th, after keeping Outlook.com in a preview phase since the end of July, Microsoft is now ready to accept public customers.
The company will now begin to auto-update accounts, and hopes to be fully migrated from Hotmail to Outlook.com by this summer. Microsoft says Hotmail customers can still use their @hotmail.com address, but when you log on, you'll be redirected to Outlook.
To welcome new users, Microsoft is financing one of the biggest, (if the not the biggest,) marketing blitzes in the history of email. The company expects to spend between $30 and $90 million dollars on the three month Outlook campaign.
