Bill Seeks Compensation for Wrongful Convictions

Posted: Updated:

OLYMPIA, Wash. - A proposed bill in the state House would give anyone wrongly convicted in Washington a chance to seek compensation from the state.

A house fiscal committee heard a measure Tuesday that would allow the person to receive $50,000 for each year of imprisonment, including time spent awaiting trial.

Additional costs would also be awarded for court and attorney fees as well as in-state college tuition waivers for the claimant and their children.
