2 Santa Cruz Police Officers Shot Dead

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say two police officers have been killed in a shooting in Santa Cruz, Calif.
    
Santa Cruz County Sheriff Phil Wowak has confirmed that the officers died after the shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
    
The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that the first of two shootings took place as police were investigating a sexual assault. A suspect fired, hitting the two officers.
    
The newspaper says a third person was shot while police were in pursuit of the shooter. Authorities say that person also died.
    
Police say they are still search for at least one other suspect.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that the Ketchum City Council on Monday approved the inventory work by city workers.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports 49-year-old George Allen of Camas, Washington was arrested Thursday.

    VANTAGE, Wash. (AP) - Evacuation notices have been lifted for residents in about 30 homes as a wildfire burning in central Washington reaches 50 percent containment. The Yakima Herald-Republic reports fire crews were hoping to fully contain the fire near Vantage and the Columbia River by Saturday night.
