State of the Ports Address in Pasco

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. - Whether it's the expansion of the Pasco Airport, the new Walter Clore Wine Center in Prosser of the future of Vista Field... there is a lot going on with the three port districts around the Mid-Columbia.

The Tri-Cities Regional Chamber of Commerce hosts the State of the Ports address every year and Wednesday more than 300 people attended the luncheon.

Representatives from the Port of Benton, Port of Pasco and the Port of Kennewick all took the stage and told the audience about what's happened in the last year and what to look forward to this year.

The Ports are all busy right now with a number of projects including the expansion of the Pasco Airport, possible changes at Vista Field and cleanup efforts on the waterfront.

"What the Port has done is between the Cable Bridge and the causeway, going on the island, we now own about 16 of the 28 acres there. We're looking at what we can do to redevelop it and create a destination waterfront that's economically viable," said Port of Kennewick Commissioner Skip Novakovich.

"Aside from the airport, we have two miles of rail that we are completing and that is in partnership with the city of Pasco. One mile is to the Heritage Industrial Center and that's northwest of Big Pasco. The other mile will complete the Big Pasco rail project," said Port of Pasco Commissioner Jean Ryckman.

The Port of Benton said they're focusing much of this year's efforts on the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center in Prosser. Construction there began in January and should be finished later this year.
