Cougar Kills Dog, Knocks Down Woman

Posted: Updated:

MANSON, Wash. (AP) - A cougar killed a dog and knocked down a woman early Friday at Manson before it was shot and killed by a Chelan County sheriff's deputy.

Washington Fish and Wildlife Capt. Chris Anderson says the woman in her 60s suffered scratches and required stitches.

The Wenatchee World reports (http://bit.ly/15WuHsZ) the woman let her small dog out of the house about 2:30 a.m. in the residential area when the cougar attacked.

The woman tried to make the cougar drop the dog and blocked it in an enclosed area of the yard. The cougar knocked her down and hid behind a hot tub. The deputy arrived in 20 minutes and killed the cougar.

Anderson says the cougar was an old, emaciated male in poor health.

He says over the course of a weekend, people had tagged his building. But this isn’t the only thing he’s been dealing with – someone’s been dumping trash in his parking lot.
