Pasco Youth Group Commits to a 30 Hour Famine

PASCO, Wash.-- A group of young people makes a statement by going 30 hours without food to learn about how the homeless live their lives.

The Riverview United Methodist Church youth group in Pasco is taking part in the nationwide 30 Hour Famine.

They're spending the night in shelters they made out of cardboard boxes, acting out what it might be like to live uncertain of you're next meal and without a home.

"They need to understand and have empathy for the people that are homeless and understand what they might need and how they can help them," said Julie Estes, Youth Group Director.

The teens spent the day working on projects around the church and preparing to brave the cold Saturday night in their cardboard quarters.

The kids will be fed lunch at 1pm Sunday at the end of their 30 hours pledge.
