Hanford Firefighters Prepare for Stairclimb Fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- The Hanford Fire Department trained for the stairclimb Sunday at Columbia Center Mall in Kennewick.

Firefighters took turns on a stair climbing machine in their full gear to prep for the big event next week and raise some money for the cause.

So far, the Hanford Fire Department ranks 6th in money raised out of all the departments taking part worldwide.

In fact, out of all them there are two local departments in the top ten. The Richland Fire Department comes in at 4th.

"It's training and it's also to give the public a better idea of what it really is like to go 69 stories in full gear," said firefighter, Mitchell Giddens, Hanford Fire Department.

Last year the stairclimb raised more than one million dollars.
